Rotterdam quartet Library Card return with the latest preview of their debut album Peeling An Orange In Just One Go, due November 6 via AT EASE. The new single finds their wiry, angular post-punk energy pushed into something particularly restless and nervy. 

There’s an appealing contradiction at the centre of the track: it sounds like everything is about to fall apart, while simultaneously treating the smallest victories as reasons to celebrate. Lead vocalist Lot van Teylingen describes the song as an expression of despair and “self-imposed naiveté”, inspired by the oddly satisfying achievement of peeling an orange in one go.

That idea comes alive in Emre Karayalçin’s playful drumming, whose opening was recorded over the studio intercom before the full band snaps into focus. Mitchell Quitz’s guitar, Kat Kalkman’s bass and Karayalçin’s drums create a tightly wound backdrop for van Teylingen’s expressive wordplay.

The resulting single captures what makes Library Card intriguing: anxious, unpredictable and occasionally funny, with enough melodic instinct to stop the whole thing becoming an exercise in gloom. Peeling An Orange In Just One Go promises to take that approach further, moving beyond their established art-punk attack into a more candid exploration of what sits underneath it.
