Long Distance Runner unveil cinematic single “New Song”
London instrumental four-piece Long Distance Runner return with their new single “New Song”, offering another glimpse into the expansive sound the band have been developing for a while.
At just under three minutes, “New Song” is a considerably more compact proposition than July’s debut single “Zero”, but it loses none of the latter’s sense of scale. Jangling guitars and swelling arrangements give the track an almost cinematic grandeur, with Long Distance Runner drawing together the widescreen drama of post-rock and film scores with the wistful pull of Midwest emo.
The result is a track that feels simultaneously wide open yet fleeting and they pack plenty of atmosphere into its brief run time without overstaying its welcome.
Produced by Tom Kellett, whose recent credits include Moreish Idols and Pearl2, “New Song” continues to establish the band’s instrumental approach while offering a different side to their sound, suggesting that Long Distance Runner can find just as much intrigue in restraint.
The single is available at shows as a limited live-exclusive 10-inch vinyl white-label release alongside “Zero”, giving fans a physical way to experience one of London’s more intriguing emerging acts.
