Dutch art-pop trio The Homesick share “Love Off The Leash”
Dutch art-pop trio The Homesick have unveiled their latest slice of synth-pop, “Love Off The Leash”, alongside news of their fourth studio album, What’s Up With All These Shangri-Las?, due 18 September via Siluh Records.
The new single finds the trio swapping their traditionally angular edges for something warmer and more dancefloor-ready. Here they’re mixing glossy synths with a buoyant groove and their own brand of strange pop sensibility. Beneath its colourful surface though “Love Off The Leash” explores the less glamorous side of infatuation, tackling idealisation and the fears that can come when falling for someone.
The track is the band’s final preview of an album that pushes The Homesick further into their increasingly electronic universe. Across 10 tracks, Jaap van der Velde, Elias Elgersma and Erik Woudwijk channel city pop, new wave, space disco, krautrock and even club music into something deliberately difficult to categorise, with Amsterdam producer Rimer London helping shape the record’s sleek, futuristic sound.
Following their guitar-free self-titled release, the new album represents another unlikely turn for a band whose decade-long career, thus far, has rarely travelled in a straight line.
