THEATRE drop new track “Gaudete” and EP
Limerick newcomers build on their phenomenal wave of momentum with the arrival of their debut EP “Incarnate” and track “Gaudete” out now.
The five-piece, now based in Dublin, have also dropped the track “Gaudete” which focuses on memories from their time in Limerick. The quintet allowed the city to shape them, often through dark times, and these experiences clearly bleed through in their music.
Readying themselves for a busy period on the festival circuit, THEATRE will be playing alongside contemporaries such as Wunderhorse and Lewis Capaldi across the summer months.
Discussing the single lead singer Maeve O’Shea says, “‘Gaudete’ was written in the early days of the band. At the time I was listening to a lot of English and Irish folk music, and Steeleye Span was one of the most prominent inspirations. In their album Below the Salt they recorded a rendition of Gaudete, a 16th century Christmas hymn – I heard the melody entangled in a guitar melody that Dara brought to a rehearsal and was determined that the two could be married together.”
