Essential Music Playlist (12/6/26)
Hi there, here’s another wonderful week of song recommendations for you below that also feature on our much longer Essential Music Playlist (see Spotify link) 3 hours of new tunes! So, here’s a curated roundup of what we think are the best new releases worth your time, as always focussing on emerging and forward-moving artists.
Interpol “This Mirror Weighs a Ton / See Out Loud”
Post post-rock gang return with a brace of tracks that sound firstly, quiet and contemplative, ruminating on life and secondly, like the raucous dance indie floor tunes of the past. It bodes well for the album, titled for the first of these songs, following more than a few years meandering in the music desert.
Mike D “True Colors”
Beastie Boy. Legend. Is back again, and playing live in the small venues, closer to the sweat and the crowd. This is a gentle cut from the upcoming solo album though. Kinda vibey with some old stool rap twisst and turns sprinkled on top.
Suede “Emotionally Unavailable”
There’s an extended version of Suede’s recent Antidepressants album coming soon and this song is an addition from those same sessions. C’mon it’s Suede, listen, enjoy..
Twin Bloom “Magazine Dreams”
Smooth rock from Oakland, California. Think Blue Oyster Cult’s Don’t Fear The Reaper but updated and different. We actually missed this release back in Feb but it’s now available on vinyl so we get a second chance to say hey this is a spacious, sun-kissed summer bop.
Elanor Moss “Sarah Waiting in the Car”
The first delicate offering from the singer-songwriter’s upcoming album The Knife, The Needle featuring a deftly painted narrative buoyed up with carefully crafted guitar, and her supporting band of musicians on brass and strings. This song has an air of freedom and hope about it which is refreshing to hear.
Slow Pulp “Better Man”
Chiming, chunky alt rock from the Chicago via Madison, Wisconsin, USA quartet. The rhythms and riffs jostle against singer Emily Massey’s sweeter vocal sound and it’s fantastic to have them back following 2023’s Yard album and time on the road touring.
Tooth “Wallflower”
One of the more relaxed sounding songs to feature on the bands new Restless in Bloom EP. Written and delivered with honesty, humanity and wrapped in yearning.
Opal Mag “Goodbye Lavender ”
Title track from the Brighton singer’s dreamy debut album. The songs countrified pedal steel sound drifts off into the ether, into lullabies.
Nia Archives “Vertical”
The London based producer, turntablist and performer mixes winsome loved up lyricism with angular, jungle beats and trance atmospherics on this new track, full of happiness.
