Woods have existed for nearly two decades in the psychedelic, folk, lo-fi, freak, and indie corners of their fans’ record collections and it feels like Perennial, as the name literarily suggests, is a new collection of the same kaleidoscopic music-shaped over so many years.
The notion that perennial plants and flowers are nature’s loops’ peppers throughout the album, initiated by Woods head-in-chief Jeremy Earl’s collection of musical loops that formed the basis of the bands collaborative improvisations and song-building working on their twelfth album.
Whether it’s the reflective twangs of White Winter Melody, a trippy haze of The Seed, the pacy swagger of Weep or the feeling of rebirth in title track Perennial Woods are as invested as ever for a band close to their twentieth anniversary.
