It’s been five years since Wild Nothing released Indigo but now Jack Tatum is dispatching Hold, an album that retains characteristic dream pop sounds but mixes in more mature pop gloss, along with some occasionally sombre lyrics. This outing sees Tatum’s songwriting embrace both the quieter moments, Presidio and Little Chaos, alongside enthusiastic offerings like Dial Tone and Suburban Solutions. He’s also aided by contributions from Hatchie, on lead single Headlights On, and features from Molly Burch and the sublime Becca Mancari round out the sound dynamics.
The entire album is also given a glistening shimmer with its mix from Geoff Swan (Caroline Polachek, Charli XCX). The existential lyrical themes never take themselves too seriously in delivering upbeat, if not quite dance-inducing tunes.
