Launching into their second full-length record Yard Slow Pulp fine tune their lo-fi guitar fuzz aesthetic into a much more collaborative effort and match the dark sardonic lyricism, on Doubt for instance, with the upbeat, catchy sounds that bring them to wider exposure, both Slugs and Cramps fit the bill.
Singer and guitarist Emily Massey naturally draws most of this attention. “You’re a summer hit, I’m singing it,” she swoons singing Slugs addictive refrain, over a warm wave of guitar and syrupy background vocals. The same could be said for most songs on the album. Yard and especially the closing song Fishes evoke some form of summer hindsight, a band reflecting on relationships come and gone in the unreal sunshine, dealing with the aftermath that follows
