Vegtable share dreamy new single “Stay” and October album news
Singapore slowcore trio Vegtable have announced their second album, Hit By A Car, arriving 16 October via Leeds-based DIY label Field Work Recordings, alongside the release of new single “Stay”.
The follow-up to 2025 debut Through The Motions, the record finds Vegtable continuing to carve out their own deliberately unhurried space within Singapore’s guitar scene, drawing from the sparse textures of ’90s indie and slowcore touchstones including Duster, Acetone, Yo La Tengo and Red House Painters.
“Stay” offers a comparatively breezy introduction to the new record, its gently chiming guitars and restrained rhythm section creating an atmosphere that feels comforting without ever becoming entirely settled. Dissonant details lurk beneath the surface, giving the track an understated sense of unease.
That tension runs throughout Hit By A Car, with the trio favouring repetition, negative space and restraint over conventional climaxes. Recorded at Singapore’s PK Records, the album was made with a rejigged line-up featuring Jeriel Lim on bass and vocals, Shenen Khoo on drums and Daniel Borces on guitar and vocals, with Lim also handling the record’s mix.
The album’s title comes from Borces witnessing a friend slowly cycle into a car while distracted by his phone — an oddly anticlimactic accident that became a fitting metaphor for a record fascinated by anticipation, gradual change and the space between action and consequence.
