Best New Music (30/5/26)

Yes there’s another jam packed week of song recommendations for you below and on our longer playlist (see Spotify link) So here’s a curated roundup of what we think are the best new releases worth your time, as always with a particular focus on emerging and forward-moving artists.

Patrick Wolf – “The Beast”

Patrick Wolf returns with a suitably grand and theatrical song, but it’s very emotionally grounded too. The track weaves between dramatic instrumentation through a deeply personal performance and his voice sounds as fantastic as ever. Wolf’s flair for vivid arrangement always gives his music a sense of movement and cathartic release and this is no excepetion.

Puppy Teeth – “Melatonin”

Puppy Teeth are a Scottish 5-piece playing what they describe as “bubble grunge”. It’s apt as descriptions go given the music’s vibe of 90s blurred guitars and drowsy melodies played with a beautifully unsteady charm. The shoegaze elements of soft-focus atmosphere contrast well with the melodies at the song’s core. A great listen from a band you want to hear much more from.

thistle. – “mean eye”

thistle. (The lowercase letters and period are important) have just released an EP called “Backflip” this is taken from that EP. It’s a bit slacker, Pavement, self deprecating. Kind of abrasive in places but mostly grabs you with its simmering tension and indie-rock intensity. There’s loads of melody too, nervy momentum that feels urgent. Without doubt one of the best bands doing it right now.

feeble little horse – “DMT”

DMT (which stands for Death Money Tech) is the shattering closer on Feeble Little Horse newly released third album “bitknot.” The album’s a throw everything and the kitchen sink mix of style and genres and the track is strangely euphoric, full of blown-out textures against sticky hooks. The band’s instinct for tension and release makes the sudden shift feel thrilling. You can’t miss it.

ugly ozo – “godspeed”

Ugly Ozo surges forward balancing distorted textures against moments of striking vulnerability. What sounds like scuzzy indie-pop-rock is tightly wound and restless energy with melodic chops that combine the chaotic in terms of music, and raw when it comes to the lyrics.

Lozenge – “Everything

Lozenge unfolds this track with slow-burning elegance, pairing hazy instrumentation with an emotional directness. The understated atmosphere also gives the song an almost hypnotic pull. Quite delicious.

Opal Mag – “Young Forever”

“Young Forever” radiates dreamy warmth. Opal Mag’s penchant for blending shimmering indie-pop textures with wistful emotion is beautifully crafted. There’s a sweet melodic glide and a nostalgic vibe too but it never tips into sentimentality.

Austra / Patrick Holland – “Siren Reprise”

Austra’s music has always glimmered with spectral beauty, often layered amongst icy synth textures while her vocals swell with cinematic ease. This Patrick Holland remix of “Siren Song” take the rounder, warmer beats and push them forward much more. The song moves with quiet confidence, taking the emotional depth of the original from restraint into freeing dance floor bop territory.

DBA! – “A poet and a clown”

DBA! balances their sharp-edged brand of post-punk energy with a tender core. The songs restless momentum and conversational delivery give it a raw sounding immediacy that feels loose and alive.
