If Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine had a baby today, you’d fully expect the resulting offspring to sound like thistle. Merging the combined gene pools of slacker alt-rock and blinding shoegaze noises into a blitzkrieg of barely suppressed melody and jet engine acoustics thistle conjure up an almighty sound.

The latest in a recent series of EP previews, “pylon” has dropped today to demonstrate exactly how apoplectically wired and raging their music can be while also managing to rein things in, just enough, to show that there are multiple dimensions to the bands sound, not merely an exercise in creating a racket. There are smooth layers to be found under more abrasive rock. Cooing emotional vocals too. It’s as awesome and thrilling as cracking open limestone to find a complex ammonite trapped within. They’re burst with energy and exuberance.

The trio’s second EP “backflip” is available to preorder and comes via Macks Faulkron’s REX Studios label REX RECS on May 29th and “”pylon” is available now on all digital platforms.
