Cruush’s latest single “Great Dane” finds the Manchester quartet refining their sound into something even more expansive. Drawing on their roots in hazy indie and textured shoegaze, the track blends squalling guitars with a taut sense of melody, it feels more immediate and direct than some of their earlier fuzzier outings. Listeners familiar with their live sets and recent release “Rupert Giles” will recognise the muscular energy in “Great Dane,” and the emotional pull. It’s a piece that feels built for headphone introspection and roaring live.

Amber Warren’s vocals sit neatly in the mix with a vulnerable sounding tone but resolutely unwavering. It weaves between plaintive verses and anthemic refrains, hoist above the taut and tethered mayhem of the rest of the band’s ferocious sound. Yet, while the band has sharpened their attack and it’s a compelling step forward for Cruush, showing a band confident enough to lean into more clarity without losing their raw emotional core.
