With a sparkling, wiry jangle and a knack for delivering alt-rock melody London four-piece Tooth reveal their debut single The Age of Innocence after carefully cultivating a rapturous live audience over the past year or so. Comprised of Tom Pollock (guitar, vocals), Ben Ashley (guitar), Charlie Arnison (bass) and Roy Lowe (drums) Tooth casually drop the first essential listen of the year.
While there are tuneful echoes of Husker Du’s propulsive rhythms and the barely restrained, squalling guitars indebted to the best late 80’s / early 90’s bands Tooth claim their own space with a song that evokes that nostalgia – sonically – but showcases them firmly planted in the present. There’s no doubt the four-piece are an exuberant creative force. The music is immediate and widely accessible, standing head and shoulders above any number of new bands.
The accompanying video to the single (below), directed / edited by Hermione Sylvester, showcases Tooth’s youthful enthusiasm and energy to the max. In short this release is a fantastic intro for anyone yet to experience them live and it promises great things to follow.
