Today Taiwan’s Scattered Purgatory (破地獄) have shared a new track ahead of the release of album ‘Post Purgatory’, which will be released next week, on January 30th via Guruguru Brain.
Following previous single “Wunai”, today the duo highlight another facet to the album, the beat-led track “Moonquake” which sees Tapei-based musician dotzio deliver a smooth sci-fi spoken-word vocal. The band comment: “This is the bravest and the most feminine step we have ever taken. Shout out to dotzio, her narration and voice texture have elevated not only this song, but the whole album’s listening experience. The bilingual mixture in the lyrics reflects the daily life of Taipei’s youth.”
Over the years, the duo-turned-band has drawn on Krautrock, minimalist electronic music, and heavy drone traditions while remaining firmly grounded in Taiwanese geography and culture. ‘Post Purgatory’ emerges after a three-year hiatus following the pandemic, a period the band describes as pivotal to the album’s conception.
