Punk icon, Riot Grrrl and musician with Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, The Julie Ruin and others Kathleen Hanna will release her first memoir next spring.
Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk will be published on May 14 2024 via the HarperCollins imprint Ecco, and follows her story from childhood to connections with her Bikini Kill and Le Tigre bandmates, friendships with musicians like Kurt Cobain, Ian MacKaye and Joan Jett, and falling in love with husband, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz of the Beastie Boys.
There’s also more on the formation and early development Riot Grrrl movement and passages about her battle of living with Lyme disease. Head below to view the book’s cover, featuring a photograph by Leeta Harding.
Over the past decade, Hanna has released two albums with her band, The Julie Ruin. Bikini Kill reformed in 2019 and played a run of Australian shows back in the spring of this year, while Le Tigre will embark on their first North American tour in 18 years later this week.
