Halloween just got a whole lot louder. Melbourne’s very own HighSchool have finally announced their self-titled debut album, landing October 31 via [PIAS] Australia, and they’ve gifted us a brand new single to swoon over: “Dipped”.

If you’re not already obsessed, the project of Rory Trobbiani and Luke Scott (plus live faves Lilli Trobbiani and Lucy Lamb) is basically a crash course in everything good about shoegaze, new wave and post-punk, stitched together with that hazy, heart-on-sleeve suburban nostalgia. Since their breakout Forever At Last EP (remember New York, Paris and London? Still a bop) and last year’s Accelerator, they’ve been fine-tuning a sound that’s equal parts moody and euphoric.

They also make their own videos, design all their visuals and, oh yeah, have already toured the world with the likes of Sam Fender, Chvrches and Wunderhorse, plus popped up at festivals from SXSW to Wide Awake. Not bad for a band who only kicked off in 2021.

The album, recorded between London and Melbourne with Ben Hillier (Blur, Depeche Mode) and Finn Billingham, promises a widescreen dose of 80s-tinged post-punk that’ll probably make you want to start a band immediately.

Until then, stick ‘Dipped’ on repeat and start counting down the days. October 31 can’t come quick enough.
