Brighton’s M. Woodroe are defiant on new single “Carte Blanche”
Brighton alt-rock outfit M. Woodroe have returned with blistering new single “Carte Blanche”, the latest taste of their forthcoming debut EP The Treatment of Fractures, due September 18 via Venn Records.
Following the acclaim surrounding debut release ‘Sweetness, Sweetness’, the quartet refuse to play it safe. Instead, “Carte Blanche” delivers a searing political broadside, pairing jagged guitar work with front woman Marcie Garwell’s uncompromising lyricism to confront themes of fascism, power and resistance. It’s an abrasive, urgent track that balances raw emotion with razor-sharp intent, cementing the band’s reputation for fearless songwriting.
Initially written as an intimate acoustic piece before evolving into a full-band favourite, the song draws inspiration from the protest traditions of artists such as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, reimagining folk’s confrontational spirit through a snarling alternative rock lens.
Freshly signed to Venn Records, home to artists including High Vis and Night Swimming, M. Woodroe are a compelling new voice. With an autumn run of live dates to come and more music on the horizon, The Treatment of Fractures is set to be an intriguing debut release.
