It’s been 4 years since the release of Lorde’s “Pure Heroine“, an album that came from nowhere and catapulted the shy 16 year old into a global spotlight. Not surprisingly she needed time to adjust, take it all in and look at what she did next. The fact that her debut has a longevity and resonance always tying her to the (recent) past was a double edged sword but now we’re here.
She’s older, just turned 20, more reflective, assured and savvy about the industry and if anyone was in doubt about her living up to her own very high benchmark then that all fades away immediately you listen to “Green Light“.
In the past couple of days leading up to it’s release Lorde described “Green Light” as “..complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you DANCE” – it’s all of these things and much more and it seems safe to say that the next chapter from her, musically, is looking so damn bright.
