Another week, another high-profile name that features on the new Barbie movie soundtrack releases their track. Billie Eilish’s new song, “What Was I Made For?”, recorded with brother/producer Finneas, it’s a typically breathy effort that takes the movie’s main conceit – reality vs Barbie world – literally questioning her role and purpose in the ‘real’ universe.
In the self-directed video, Eilish in full-on Mad Men secretarial outfit sits at a desk and pulls out doll versions of her old outfits, despite things continually interrupting her like an earthquake, a windstorm, a downpour. Metaphor central!
The Barbie soundtrack has already gotten new singles from Pink Pantheress, Charli XCX, Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice, Dua Lipa so with Eilish now added it’s looking like this could be the hottest album out there in the coming months! The Barbie soundtrack is out 21 July on Atlantic Records.
