There are few things, musically, that give me more joy than absorbing the music Mogwai create so when news of new songs, a finished album “Every Country’s Sun“, due for release September this year and a live world tour are announced that’s a huge cause for celebration.
Listen to “Coolverine” below and I dare you not to fall head over heels in love with its hypnotic, lugubrious wash of synths, bass and guitar as it builds into a blistering crescendo full of portent, drumkit pummeled into submission. I personally feel it aurally sums up these uneasy, off kilter times, socially and politically. It’s also a kick ass intro to the new music that gets me salivating just like all their very best tunes.
