Patrick Wolf unleashes a defiant new single, “The Beast”

Patrick Wolf has returned with thunderous and dramatic (of course) new single ‘The Beast.’ Arriving ahead of his extensive US tour this June, the track blends baroque instrumentation with the icy electronic pulse that first defined his early work, including his debut album Lycanthropy (2003) with Wolf layering harpsichord, dulcitone, viola and upright piano over restless beats and towering hooks, all of this glazed with the golden syrup of his vocals achingly restless throughout.

Described by Wolf as a “harpsichord banger”, ‘The Beast’ channels the same fearless experimentation that made Lycanthropy such a cult touchstone, while pushing toward a darker, more triumphant sound. Its accompanying video mirrors that intensity: a shadow-drenched, theatrical visual shot in rural England, directed with stark gothic flair and flickering between folklore, performance art and fever-dream surrealism.

This release also arrives ahead of the premiere of forthcoming documentary Wolf at Sheffield DocFest, executive produced and narrated by Tilda Swinton, charting Wolf’s turbulent career and creative rebirth.
